Gallitzin bridge to be named after Vietnam veteran Corporal James R. Beck

State Representative Jim Rigby will host a ceremony to dedicate the Gallitzin Road/State Route 53 as the Corporal James R. Beck USMC Memorial Bridge. This bridge crosses the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in Gallitzin Township, Cambria County.

Corporal James R. Beck, a graduate of Cresson Joint High School, now known as Penn Cambria High School, lost his life on October 23, 1968, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. The cause of death was an explosive device detonation nearby.

The dedication ceremony will be attended by members of the Beck family and is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at 1 p.m. It will take place at American Legion Post 238 located at 222 Ashcroft Ave., Cresson.
