As the Biden administration ends its first year, more than half of likely voters report that they are dissatisfied with President Joe Biden's leadership.
In the 2020 election, the state of Pennsylvania favored Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as its presidential choices. Since then, approval ratings for the Biden administration have steadily dropped among likely voters.
A national poll by McLaughlin & Associates found that 57% disapprove of Biden's job performance, while 41% approve. By the same token, 56% of people view Kamala Harris unfavorably, while 39% view her favorably. Opinions of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi followed a similar pattern: 61% view her unfavorably and 33% favorably.
Public opinion and optimism related to economic well-being has also dwindled after Biden's first year in office.
According to another McLaughlin & Associates poll, 62% of Americans believe the economy is getting worse, while only 30% say it is getting better.
At the beginning of the Biden administration, however, the general opinion of the U.S. economy was split more evenly. A year ago, 52% of Americans believed the economy was worsening, while 42% said it was improving.
When respondents were asked which issue was currently the most important to them personally, the economy was the most common answer, with 31% of Americans choosing it as the most important issue.
Concern about the COVID-19 pandemic has steadily declined. Only 15% of Americans said the coronavirus was the most important issue to them personally, compared to 41% in April.
When Americans were asked how they felt about making former President Donald Trump’s tax cuts permanent, 61% approved and 26% disapproved.
The January 2022 survey was conducted from Jan. 13 to 18 and polled 1,000 likely general election voters.
