Mount Aloysius College issued the following announcement on Oct. 15

Mount Aloysius College recently inaugurated John N. McKeegan, J.D., the College’s 15th president. The ceremony came after McKeegan served all of the 2020 academic year as official president, and its goal was to celebrate the history and legacy of the College while looking toward the future.

Presentations during the two-day event included a panel discussion on the value of a Catholic higher education, and a keynote address by John Garvey, president of the Catholic University of America.

“While today is, in fact, the inauguration of John McKeegan, it’s really not just about John. It’s a chance to celebrate the history of the College and to celebrate its mission,” said Richard Rose, chair of the Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees, during the ceremony.

“We have the benefit of celebrating this event over a year since John started to serve as the College’s president. That time has given me the opportunity to state with absolute confidence that John not only understands the core values of Mercy, Justice, Hospitality, and Service, but that he lives them daily.”

In addition to the panel and keynote address, Mount Aloysius College academic department chairs presented to guests the strides each department is making to assist students in their educational pursuits. Dr. Julie Decker, assistant professor of nursing, spoke Thursday, October 7 on the role of the Sisters of Mercy nurses during the American Civil War. Dr. Donald Talbot, professor of fine arts, presented the same day on Arts for Healing and using art as a way to assist people suffering from a variety of illnesses in their healing journey.

“From the beginning, we wanted these days to not focus on a person, but on our entire Mount Aloysius community,” said John McKeegan in a message following his inauguration. “Thank you for achieving our goal! It is a true honor to have the opportunity to serve here.”
