Mount Aloysius College to Host Virtual Teaching Conference

Cresson, Pa. – Mount Aloysius College will host their biennial Conference on College Teaching virtually this year in order to accommodate attendees during the pandemic. The conference aims to bring high school and higher education faculty together to foster discourse on student learning, pedagogical approaches, and student engagement. This year’s conference will be held on October 23, and features poster and paper presentations from professors from around the region, as well as a keynote presentation.
“The Mount Aloysius Conference on College Teaching Committee was pleased to be able to quickly pivot and offer our on-campus conference virtually this year,” said Dr. Sara Rutledge, Professor of Education at Mount Aloysius and Chair of the Conference on College Teaching Committee. “We are grateful to be at an institution of higher education that values and invests in instructional technology enough to allow this conference to occur. Similar conferences of this kind were cancelled for this year, so we are pleased to offer a virtual conference where university faculty and staff can share their research and innovative practices.”
Conference presentations this year are offered by a variety of presenters from Mount Aloysius College, Slippery Rock University, Hood College, York College of Pennsylvania, Saint Francis University, University of Georgia, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as the local community. They will cover topics such as textual variety, the effects of physical exercise on students with Autism, the benefits of mentoring, and how to use podcasting as a teaching tool.
“In addition to presentation sessions, the conference offers a virtual morning coffee chat, virtual poster presentations, and a keynote address by Dr. Lynanne Black from the Department of Educational and School Psychology at IUP,” said Rutledge. “Her talk will focus on student engagement and how to maximize that in the age of COVID-19, as well as in a traditional face-to-face environment.”
