Cost of college went up for all students at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.9 percent for 2018-19 at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Pennsylvania residents paid $8,130 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $150 more than the $7,980 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 41 percent more than residents this year, or $11,460. Their price tag grew 1.3 percent from $11,310 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Pennsylvania residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 138 students received grants or scholarships totaling $776,066 and 138 students took out student loans totaling more than $661,443.

Including all undergraduates (2,658), 649 students used grants or scholarships totaling $3.2 million, and 600 students took out $2.7 million in federal student loans.
