Rigby to dedicate local bridge in honor of Vietnam veteran

State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) will host a ceremony to dedicate the bridge that carries Route 53 over Bear Rock Run in Lilly Borough, Cambria County. The bridge will be renamed the “Corporal James D. Sloan Memorial Bridge.”

Corporal James D. Sloan attended Penn Cambria High School and served in the Vietnam War. He died at home on March 12, 1971, after experiencing PTSD.

Members of Sloan’s family are expected to join Rigby at the event. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m., and will take place at American Legion Post 238, located at 222 Ashcroft Ave., Cresson.

The event will be streamed live on Rigby’s website and Facebook page.
