State Representative Jim Rigby is collaborating with faculty from Saint Francis University to host a Cyber Crime Awareness Class on Thursday, October 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Cresson Fire Hall located at 223 Ashcroft Ave., Cresson.
Rigby encourages residents interested in attending to register ahead of time by calling his office at 814-886-1055 or visiting his website and clicking on the “Events” tab.
“The objective of the class is to help residents of the 71st Legislative District stay informed, stay alert and stay safe online,” Rigby said. “The criminals we’re dealing with want nothing more than to disrupt their intended target’s life, ruin their reputation and profit at their expense. Anyone who’s been through an experience like this knows how damaging getting scammed can be and how difficult it is to recover from.”
Rigby also noted, “The class is free and open to anyone, as these thieves target all age groups.”
Three Saint Francis University faculty members will lead the seminar. Dr. Kevin Slonka, associate professor and cybersecurity director in the Computer Science Department, brings decades of industry experience and research in cyber security. Michael Zambotti, assistant professor in cybersecurity, specializes in open-source intelligence, incident response, and risk management. Dr. Mark Buckwalter, associate professor of criminal justice and retired federal agent with 27 years of law enforcement experience, will also present.
“These gentlemen have seen it all when it comes to cyber crime, and I appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge with us,” said Rigby.
