State Representative Jim Rigby is collaborating with faculty members from Saint Francis University to host a Cyber Crime Awareness Class. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cresson Fire Hall.
Registration for the seminar is required in advance. Interested participants can register by calling Rigby’s office or by visiting his website and using the “Events” tab.
“The objective of the class is to help residents of the 71st Legislative District stay informed, stay alert and stay safe online,” Rigby said. “The criminals we’re dealing with want nothing more than to disrupt their intended target’s life, ruin their reputation and profit at their expense. Anyone who’s been through an experience like this knows how damaging getting scammed can be and how difficult it is to recover from.”
Rigby also emphasized that “the class is free and open to anyone, as these thieves target all age groups.”
The session will feature three members of Saint Francis University’s faculty: Dr. Kevin Slonka, associate professor and cybersecurity director; Michael Zambotti, assistant professor in cybersecurity specializing in open-source intelligence and risk management; and Dr. Mark Buckwalter, associate professor of criminal justice and retired federal agent.
“These gentlemen have seen it all when it comes to cyber crime, and I appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge with us,” Rigby stated.
