State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) has announced that he will partner with Seniors for Safe Driving to host two Mature Driver Improvement courses in the coming months. The initiative aims to help senior citizens review and refresh their driving knowledge.
“These events are very well attended and usually generate a waiting list, which is why we’ve already scheduled a second class,” said Rigby. “They are taught solely in a classroom setting and provide a good test of the rules of the road for anyone who may have lost confidence behind the wheel.”
The first course will take place on Tuesday, August 12 at the Cresson Volunteer Fire Company from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second session is scheduled for Monday, September 15 at Solomon Run Fire Hall in Johnstown from noon to 4 p.m.
The course, approved by PennDOT, is intended for drivers aged 55 and older and costs $17. Participants who complete the program will receive at least a five percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years.
Those interested in registering can call 1-800-559-4880 or visit the program’s website. For additional questions about this or other state government matters, residents can contact Rigby’s offices in Cresson, Ferndale, or Somerset County.
