State Rep. James Rigby announced on Apr. 24 that he will partner with Seniors for Safe Driving to offer two Mature Driver Improvement courses for senior citizens in the coming months.
The courses are intended to help older drivers refresh their knowledge of traffic rules and boost their confidence behind the wheel. According to Rigby, “These events are very well attended and usually generate a waiting list, which is why we’ve already scheduled a second class. They are taught solely in a classroom setting and provide a good test of the rules of the road for anyone who may have lost confidence behind the wheel.”
The first course will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at Windber Recreation Park and Pool from noon to 4 p.m., while the second is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Richland Township Fire Department’s Solomon Run fire hall from 5-9 p.m. The PennDOT-approved program is designed for residents aged 55 or older at a cost of $17 per participant. Completion of the course offers participants a minimum five percent discount on auto insurance premiums over three years.
