Rep. Jim Rigby, representing Cambria and Somerset, expressed his disapproval of the 2024-25 state budget following its passage in the House. The budget, which totals nearly $48 billion, represents a $2.7 billion increase from the previous fiscal year.

Rigby stated, “The budget passed today is set to spend nearly $48 billion. That’s a $2.7 billion increase over the current fiscal year.” He acknowledged that while negotiations between the Republican-majority Senate and the Democrat-led House and Governor Josh Shapiro were thorough, he could not support the final spending amount.

“I made a commitment to the people I represent to be fiscally prudent with their tax dollars,” Rigby explained. He warned that this level of government spending could deplete reserve funds and lead to future tax increases, calling it “simply unsustainable.”

Representative Jim Rigby serves Pennsylvania’s 71st Legislative District. For further information, media can contact Scott B. Little at 717-260-6137 or 717-497-5967.
