Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) and Rep. Frank Burns (D-Cambria) have announced the awarding of 80 laptops to Peniel Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility in Johnstown. This initiative aims to support the facility’s essential work by providing residents access to high-speed internet for services like work and education, as well as promoting digital literacy.
“I am very pleased that Peniel Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility is receiving these laptops after a competitive process,” said Langerholc. “Connecting residents to high-speed internet is essential in helping them find work and education.”
“These new laptops will help Peniel’s clients build better habits, learn new skills, and focus on their recovery—one step at a time,” Burns added.
The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority awarded the laptops through a grant process established by the U.S. Department of Treasury. The funding originates from Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund, which allocated $279 million to Pennsylvania for critical projects, including $20 million dedicated to non-profits, community anchor institutions, and municipal governments for laptop purchases.
This effort is part of a broader mission aimed at strengthening community infrastructure and creating accessible public spaces that serve as lifelines for work, education, and health.
