State Senator Wayne Langerholc (R-35) and State Representative Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) have announced that more than $1.5 million in grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will be allocated to infrastructure projects in Cambria County.
The funding comes through two programs: the Multimodal Transportation Fund and the Small Water and Sewer Program. The grants are aimed at improving local transportation routes, water supply, and sewer systems.
Grant recipients under the Multimodal Transportation Fund include Penn Cambria School District, which will receive $780,572 for transportation improvements near the high school and a new elementary wing. Scalp Level Borough is set to get $157,971 to improve Main Street from its border with Richland Township to Locust Street/State Route 3015. South Fork Borough will use $265,835 for paving work on B Court, 3rd Court, 4th Court, and Portage Street.
Rigby stated, “Grants like these are competitive in nature, so we commend our local government leaders for being proactive in dealing with their individual projects. These are all much-needed upgrades to infrastructure and we’re happy to be able to assist them with these necessary improvements.”
Langerholc commented on the significance of the transportation projects: “By repaving aging roads and improving traffic flow, these projects will enhance safety and mobility. These investments will have a positive, long-term impact on area residents.”
Rigby added, “These projects address both improvements to existing projects and aging infrastructure. Sen. Langerholc and I are proud to work with local leaders and partner with each other in order to finalize funding for them.”
Under the Small Water and Sewer Program, Forest Hills Municipal Authority has been awarded $238,160 for a mainline extension project connecting several residential roads with public sewer service. The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Portage is receiving $81,838 for a water supply improvement project near Mountain and Park avenues. Scalp Level Borough is also getting $39,268 to address stormwater runoff and drainage issues along Park Avenue.
“These funds will help support expensive, but crucial, water and sewer projects in our communities,” said Langerholc. “I am glad to work with Rep. Rigby to deliver this essential support for local infrastructure and public health.”
