State Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. and State Representative Jim Rigby have announced that the Central Mainline Sewer Authority has secured a loan of nearly $2.3 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to support improvements at a local wastewater treatment plant.

According to Rigby, “PENNVEST’s continued focus on improving and investing in our water infrastructure is essential for strong communities. Sen. Langerholc and I were pleased to work with the authority and make this funding possible to ensure proper and efficient treatment of wastewater in their service area.”

Langerholc, who serves on the PENNVEST Board of Directors, stated, “As a member of the PENNVEST Board of Directors, I was proud to advocate for this important investment in Central Mainline Sewer Authority. The rehabilitation of key water facilities will strengthen essential services, protect public health, and support the long-term vitality of the region.”

The Central Mainline Sewer Authority operates under Washington Township and provides sewage treatment services to Cassandra and Lilly boroughs, as well as parts of Cresson, Portage, and Washington townships. The planned upgrades include installing a new two-channel rotary sludge press and a pump station screening system at the treatment plant. The current system requires repair parts that are no longer available, and the new funding will allow for the purchase of updated technology.

PENNVEST offers low-cost financial assistance for water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution projects that affect public health, safety, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and economic development. The organization aims to ensure all Pennsylvanians have access to clean water and support the state’s economic growth.

Langerholc and Rigby also reminded public and private entities operating drinking water, wastewater, or stormwater systems that the deadline for the next round of PENNVEST applications is Wednesday, October 29. Application forms and more information are available online.
