Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) and Congressman Don Davis (NC-01), co-chairs of the Congressional Baking Caucus, have reintroduced H. Res. 847 to designate November as “National Bread Month.” The resolution aims to recognize the contributions of the commercial baking industry.
“Commercial baking has played a vital role in ensuring our communities have access to affordable, nutritious food,” said Congressman Joyce, M.D. “As families across the nation gather this month to break bread and give thanks for our many blessings, I can think of no better time to recognize the hard work and dedication of our farmers, bakers, and all who work to ensure that all American families have access to healthy, accessible grain foods this Thanksgiving and all year round.”
Congressman Davis added: “From family tables to local bakeries, bread has long been a symbol of community and tradition in America. The commercial baking industry not only keeps this tradition alive but also fuels our economy by providing affordable, nutritious food options and good-paying jobs across eastern North Carolina and the nation. During National Bread Month, the Congressional Baking Caucus celebrates the hardworking men and women who help bring this daily staple to our homes.”
The Congressional Baking Caucus was formed in November 2024 by Congressmen Joyce and Davis as a bipartisan group focused on issues facing the American baking industry.
John Joyce is currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 13th district since 2019. He succeeded Bill Shuster in that role. Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania in 1957, Joyce is now 66 years old and lives in Hollidaysburg. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University, University Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979.
