Congressman John Joyce, M.D. of Pennsylvania and Congressman Don Davis of North Carolina have introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to designate November as “National Bread Month.” The initiative, known as H. Res. 847, is supported by both lawmakers who co-chair the Congressional Baking Caucus.
“Commercial baking has played a vital role in ensuring our communities have access to affordable, nutritious food,” said Congressman Joyce, M.D. “As families across the nation gather this month to break bread and give thanks for our many blessings, I can think of no better time to recognize the hard work and dedication of our farmers, bakers, and all who work to ensure that all American families have access to healthy, accessible grain foods this Thanksgiving and all year round.”
Congressman Davis also emphasized the significance of bread in American life: “From family tables to local bakeries, bread has long been a symbol of community and tradition in America. The commercial baking industry not only keeps this tradition alive but also fuels our economy by providing affordable, nutritious food options and good-paying jobs across eastern North Carolina and the nation,” said Congressman Davis. “During National Bread Month, the Congressional Baking Caucus celebrates the hardworking men and women who help bring this daily staple to our homes.”
The Congressional Baking Caucus was formed in November 2024 by Congressmen Joyce and Davis as a bipartisan group focused on issues facing the American baking industry.
