John Joyce, M.D., U.S. Congressman representing Pennsylvania’s 13th district since 2019, shared a series of updates on his official Twitter account in early November. The posts focused on healthcare advocacy, community safety, and national security.
On November 3, Joyce highlighted Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and acknowledged a meeting with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in Washington. He wrote: “With November being Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, there was no better time to meet with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in Washington. Thank you to Alyson Stevens, MD/PhD candidate from Altoona, for coming in to discuss how Congress can continue to support https://t.co/Fs9WYfH0H8”.
Later that day, Joyce addressed an incident involving violence at a local hospital. On November 3 he posted: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the horrific attack on a UPMC Altoona ER patient care technician this past weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, their loved ones, and the entire UPMC community during this difficult time. On behalf of Pennsylvania’s 13th”.
Two days later, on November 5, Joyce expressed appreciation for members of the National Guard deployed in Washington D.C.: “Today, I had the privilege of meeting National Guard members along the National Mall who are deployed by @POTUS to help restore safety and order in Washington, D.C. Appreciative of their continued service and commitment to protecting our nation’s capital! https://t.co/eERifEb8Mi”.
Joyce has represented Pennsylvania’s 13th district since replacing Bill Shuster in 2019. Born in Altoona in 1957 and currently residing in Hollidaysburg, he graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BS degree in 1979.
