State Representative Jim Rigby from the 71st Legislative District in Pennsylvania has announced a $310,000 grant for the Forest Hills Area Ambulance Association. The funding was secured from the Department of Community and Economic Development.

“It’s ironic that the House Fire and EMS Caucus, of which I am a member, held a news conference this morning to announce our initiatives for this term,” commented Rep. Rigby, who has experience as a volunteer firefighter. “Moments after that event, I learned of the successful grant application which we submitted just two weeks ago.”

The grant aims to finance a new ambulance to replace an older model that was approaching 200,000 miles. Arnie Nadonoley, the association’s president, explained, “Our coverage area increased last November when the Portage Area Ambulance Association closed its doors. This new vehicle will be the third ambulance in our fleet and allow us to better serve Portage Borough, Portage Township, Wilmore Borough, and portions of Summerhill Township.”

Eric Miller, manager of Forest Hills EMS, noted the essential role played by Rep. Rigby and his office. “Decreased insurance reimbursements and rising everyday costs make it difficult to replace these expensive pieces of equipment, and we’re happy that we reached out to him.”
