Conemaugh Nason Medical Center has introduced a new service offering certified car seat safety checks to assist families in ensuring their children’s safety during travel. This initiative, which aligns with the hospital’s commitment to injury prevention and community education, is part of its Level IV Trauma Program.

Lesly Miller-Jacobs, who serves as Patient Advocate and Community Liaison at the medical center, recently obtained her Certified Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) certification in March. She stated, “This initiative is one more way we’re working to protect our youngest community members. Car seat safety is essential, and I’m proud to be a resource for families in our region.”

Families interested in this service can schedule an appointment with Miller-Jacobs for personalized guidance. The sessions will include education on proper car seat usage and positioning, fit checks based on the child’s age, height, and weight, advice on seat placement relative to airbags, a review of product recalls and manufacturer guidelines, as well as tips for safe installation. While the technician will not perform installations themselves, parents will receive hands-on instruction to ensure correct installation.

In addition to these services, child safety seats are available for qualifying families through support from the American Trauma Society’s Pennsylvania Division and a state grant.

Appointments for this service start in June and can be scheduled by calling 814-224-6230. Due to limited space, early scheduling is advised.
