Conemaugh Nason Medical Center has introduced Aquablation therapy, a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. This makes Conemaugh Nason the first hospital in western Pennsylvania to offer this technology, which provides long-lasting symptom relief with fewer complications than traditional treatments.

BPH is a common condition that affects aging patients, causing symptoms like frequent urination and weak urine flow. If untreated, it can impact quality of life and lead to serious complications. Aquablation therapy uses a robotically controlled waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue while preserving structures that control urinary and sexual function.

“Aquablation therapy is a game-changer for patients dealing with BPH,” said Stephen Yanoshak, DO, Urologist. “This treatment is unique because it combines advanced imaging with robotic precision, allowing us to tailor the procedure to each patient’s anatomy while minimizing side effects. We are thrilled to offer this to our community as part of our commitment to high-quality, innovative care.”

Unlike traditional surgical treatments for BPH that often involve heat-based methods leading to unwanted side effects, Aquablation offers a safe alternative. The procedure is performed under anesthesia in a hospital setting and typically requires only a short stay. Clinical studies show it provides long-term relief while better preserving continence and sexual function compared to other options.

“At Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, we are dedicated to bringing the most advanced treatment options to our community, and we are proud to be the only hospital in all of Western Pennsylvania offering Aquablation therapy,” said Michelle Buttry, Chief Operating Officer. “By introducing this innovative technology, we continue our commitment to exceptional urologic care, ensuring our patients have access to the best possible treatment—right here, close to home.”

Patients in Blair County and surrounding areas now have access to state-of-the-art BPH treatment without needing extensive travel. This aligns with Conemaugh Health System’s mission of providing leading-edge care while enhancing patient outcomes.
