Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s orthopedic team has achieved a significant milestone by completing its first high-volume arthroplasty day. This involved performing multiple total joint replacements, including complex revision surgeries, in one day. The accomplishment reflects the team’s dedication to enhancing patient care and surgical efficiency.

The initiative was the result of extensive planning and coordination across various departments, including nursing, pre-op and recovery (PACU), physical therapy, anesthesia, operating room staff, sterile processing, Team Stryker, and Western PA Orthopedics. By optimizing workflows and refining surgical processes, Conemaugh has shown that high-efficiency joint replacement days are feasible and can pave the way for larger-scale procedures in the future.

“This was truly a team effort,” said Richard Goodrich, DO. “Each department played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth transitions and delivering exceptional care. The level of collaboration we achieved provides a strong foundation for future high-volume arthroplasty days.”

Chantara Heiss, Perioperative Nurse Manager (PACU), added her perspective: “The entire team was focused and committed, ensuring the day ran without a hitch. Every department worked in perfect harmony, providing smooth and efficient care for our patients every step of the way.”

High-volume arthroplasty days involve completing several total joint replacement procedures within one surgical schedule. This includes both primary surgeries and complex revisions. Achieving such efficiency requires seamless coordination among surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and surgical staff to ensure optimal outcomes.

With this achievement, Conemaugh Orthopedics is changing the landscape of joint replacement surgery by offering patients faster recovery times and an elevated standard of care. This milestone reinforces Conemaugh’s status as a leader in advanced surgical care.
