Holy Name Church recently issued the following announcement.

CANONIZATION OF CHARLES De FOUCAULD

Brother Francklin in Haiti wants to share good news with us that their spiritual founder, Trappist monk Charles de Foucauld, will be declared a saint by Pope Francis on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Bro. Charles lived peaceably among the native bedouins, Christian and Muslim, in the Sahara Dessert, in imitation of the hidden life of Jesus. Similarly, Bro. Francklin now shares the everyday hard life of the peasants in Pandiassou, Haiti. Bro. Charles is also founder of the Little Sisters of Jesus (who live in Gallitzin.) Charles was attacked and killed by a few desperately poor robbers Dec.1, 1916. Before his death he composed the Prayer of Abandonment: “Father, I abandon myself into your hands. Do with me what you will. Whatever you do, I thank you….I love you, and so need to give myself to you without reserve and with boundless confidence. For you are my Father!” St. Charles de Foucauld, pray for us!
