Grants totaling nearly $4 million have been allocated to 13 recipients in Cambria County, as announced by state Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. and state Representative Jim Rigby. The funding comes from the Local Share Account (LSA) and Public School Facility Improvement Grant programs.
Senator Langerholc expressed satisfaction with the funding allocation: “I am pleased to see vital projects in Cambria County receive funding from the commonwealth.” He highlighted that these grants will support public projects and improve educational facilities in the area. Langerholc thanked Rep. Rigby for collaborating to secure these funds.
The Penn Cambria School District received a $2 million grant for high school improvements under the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, funded by the 2023-24 state budget. Representative Rigby stated, “This grant will be used for renovation and engineering costs associated with the project.” He emphasized the necessity of replacing outdated systems at the high school.
The LSA grant recipients include various boroughs and townships receiving funds for infrastructure upgrades, equipment purchases, and safety improvements:
– Cassandra Borough received $89,321 for a new tractor.
– Clearfield Township was awarded $39,500 for school zone flashing lights.
– Cresson Borough obtained $78,199 for police equipment.
– Dean Township got $33,925 for an emergency power generator.
– Ferndale Borough secured $38,650 for license plate readers.
– Gallitzin Borough Sewer and Disposal Authority received $70,300 for wastewater treatment upgrades.
– Lilly Borough was granted $450,000 for streetscape improvements.
– Portage Township obtained $33,938 for medical equipment.
– Reade Township received two grants: one of $134,058 for a backhoe loader and another of $400,000 through its Municipal Authority for a water system storage tank.
– Sankertown Sewer Authority was allocated $275,000 for sewer system improvements.
– Scalp Level Borough received $336,336 for stormwater drainage improvements.
These grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority which oversees program funding derived from gaming revenues in Pennsylvania.
