Bridge dedication to honor WWII veteran PFC Dr. Alex W. Barber

Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. will lead a bridge dedication ceremony to honor Private First Class Dr. Alex W. Barber on Thursday, May 29, at Greater Johnstown Senior High School in Johnstown. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.

PFC Barber was a graduate of Johnstown High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 during World War II. He was wounded while providing care to fellow soldiers and received several honors for his bravery, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. After his military service, he returned home to become a chiropractor. PFC Barber passed away on October 14, 1986, and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

In recognition of his contributions and sacrifices, the bridge over Stony Creek River on Pennsylvania Route 56 in Johnstown will be named the PFC Dr. Alex W. Barber Memorial Bridge.
